ELIZABETH LOUISA MORESBY ("LILY ADAMS BECK", "E. BARRINGTON")
Handwritten note by the prolific author, signing with two of her pen names
Autograph Note signed: "with every good/wish to Dr. Sessler/from L. Adams/Beck, who is also/E. Barrington/July/1926", 6x4½ card. Photograph (sepia, 2½x3¾) on right. The daughter of an English sea captain, Elizabeth Louisa Moresby lived and traveled in Asia before settling down in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1919. Having never published before, she then became a prolific author. She wrote under various pseudonyms, depending on the genre. As Louis Moresby, she wrote nonfiction, including a history of Egypt. As E. Barrington, she wrote historical romances, including a tale of Napoleon and Josephine (1927). As Lily Adams Beck, she wrote stories set in Asia and influenced by Oriental philosophy and religion. She was a staunch Buddhist and strict vegetarian, highly critical of the materialism of the West. Photo lightly silvered at lower edge. Card slightly soiled, with minor nicks at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
