Autograph Note signed: "with every good/wish to Dr. Sessler/from
L. Adams/Beck, who is also/E. Barrington/July/1926", 6x4½ card. Photograph
(sepia, 2½x3¾) on right. The daughter of an English sea captain, Elizabeth
Louisa Moresby lived and traveled in Asia before settling down in Victoria,
British Columbia, in 1919. Having never published before, she then became a
prolific author. She wrote under various pseudonyms, depending on the genre.
As Louis Moresby, she wrote nonfiction, including a history of Egypt. As
E. Barrington, she wrote historical romances, including a tale of Napoleon
and Josephine (1927). As Lily Adams Beck, she wrote stories set in Asia and
influenced by Oriental philosophy and religion. She was a staunch
Buddhist and strict vegetarian, highly critical of the materialism of the
West. Photo lightly silvered at lower edge. Card slightly soiled, with minor
nicks at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
