Magazine photograph signed: "Ella/ Grasso" in black ink. B/w,
2½x4. Ella Grasso (1919-1981), a Democrat, was a U.S. Representative from
Connecticut (1971-1975) before successfully running for Governor in 1974.
Reelected in 1978, she resigned for health reasons in December 1980 and died
of cancer at age 62 on February 5, 1981. Grasso was the first woman elected
Governor of a U.S. state who was not the wife or widow of a governor.
Irregularly cut. Slightly worn. Staple punctures in top margin. Otherwise fine
