The Connecticut governor sends her thanks to an admirer requesting a
signed photo, signs name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "Ella Grasso" in black ink. 1 page,
8½x11. Written on personal Connecticut gubernatorial letterhead. Hartford,
Connecticut. In full: "Dear Friend: Thank you for requesting an
autographed picture. I am pleased to enclose one [not incuded]. With best
wishes, Cordially". Ella Grasso (1919-1981), a Democrat, was a
U.S. Representative from Connecticut (1971-1975) before successfully running
for Governor in 1974. Reelected in 1978, she resigned for health reasons in
December 1980 and died of cancer at age 62 on February 5, 1981. Grasso
was the first woman elected Governor of a U.S. state who was not the wife or
widow of a governor. Normal mailing folds. Slightly toned. Light surface
creases. Corners rounded. Slightly soiled on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
