ELLA MAE MORSE
The pop and blues singer of the forties and early fifties signs a note to radio/television host George Sanders
Autograph Note signed: "Hey George -/Here's to all/the best for you/Ella/Mae/Morse", 7¾x3. Newspaper photo of Morse (b/w, ¾x1¼) affixed on right. On verso are an unidentified signer and fragments of two autograph notes, the sheet having been trimmed to feature Morse. ELLA MAE MORSE (1924-1999) began her singing career with big bands. She worked briefly for Jimmy Dorsey, until he discovered she was only 14, not 19 as she had claimed. She made her first solo recording in 1943. She sang both pop and R&B, scoring her biggest hit, Blacksmith Blues (1952). Not a major star in her day, Morse is now regarded as an important influence on what would soon become rock 'n' roll. George R. Sanders, originally a disc jockey, became a prominent radio/TV interview host, first in Los Angeles and later in Portland. Soiled at right margin. Lightly soiled at first letter of Morse's first, middle and last name. Otherwise, fine condition.
