Elliot Lawrence (b. 1925) formed what was initially a swing band, just as the
big band era was ending. However, he made many successful jazz recordings for
Columbia, Decca and other labels between 1946 and 1960. Thereafter, he
concentrated on composing and arranging for stage, films and television.
Nominated for a Tony for Best Conductor and Music Director in 1961 for Bye
Bye Birdie, he won the award the following year for How to Succeed in
Business without Really Trying. Fine condition.
