ELLIOTT ABRAMS
Photograph signed by controversial neoconservative
Inscribed photograph signed "To Oscar Peters/From/Elliott Abrams". B/w, 8x10. Abrams is an American lawyer and leading neoconservative who was a signatory of the Project For the New American Century letter sent to President Bill Clinton in 1998 calling for regime change in Iraq and has been appointed to positions in the presidential administrations of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, including a senior adviser position on Middle East affairs during Bush's first term. After Reagan left office in 1989, Abrams worked for a number of think tanks, eventually becoming head of the Ethnics and Policy Center (EPPC), and was a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute from 1989 to 1996. Abrams is known as a formidable and combative bureaucrat and is strongly associated with Jewish and evangelical Christian organizations. His political career has been fraught with controversy. He's been accused by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International of covering up massacres and human rights abuses committed by American-supported military forces in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, as well as the Contras in Nicaragua and was charged with multiple felonies during the Iran-Contra scandal, charges that were pled down to conviction without imprisonment on two misdemeanors. President George Bush pardoned him in 1992. Abrams has also been accused of undermining peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine. Born in New York to a Jewish family, he received a Masters in international relations from the London School of Economics and a Juris Degree from Harvard Law School. His wife, Rachel Decter (1951-2013), was step-daughter of influential neoconservative Norman Podhoretz. Fine condition.
