ELLIOTT ROOSEVELT. TLS: "Elliott Roosevelt" as Mayor of Miami Beach, 1p, 5¾x8¾. Miami Beach, Florida, 1966 May 24. On City of Miami Beach letterhead to Paul J. Friscat, Canton, Ohio. In full: "Thank you for your kind letter of recent date. As per your request, it gives me pleasure to enclose an autographed picture for your collection. Kindest regards and best wishes, Cordially," Elliott Roosevelt, named in honor of his maternal grandfather (Theodore Roosevelt's brother), was the fourth child and third son of President Franklin Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. He was born on September 23, 1910 in New York City. At the time, his father was practicing law with the firm of Carter, Ledyard and Milburn. On November 8, less than two months after his son's birth, FDR was elected to the New York State Senate from Dutchess County (his first elective office). During WWII, Elliott was a member of Lieutenant Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.'s air escort when, on August 12, 1944, Kennedy's plane exploded over Suffolk, England killing him. In addition to serving as Mayor of Miami Beach, Elliott was also a best-selling author. His mystery novels, which portray his parents, with his mother as sleuth, include Murder in the East Room, Murder in the Rose Garden, Murder in the Executive Mansion and Murder in Georgetown. Elliott the last surviving son of Eleanor and Franklin, died in 1990. Lightly creased at upper left corner. Fine condition.
