Original 8½x8 black ink cartoon of a veterinarian at a costume ball, drawn by cartoonist Elmer Atkins
Original art signed "Atkins". Red ink notations in unknown hand and black ink stamps on verso. 8½x8 overall, 8x6¼ drawing, one surface. Pen and ink cartoon. Unsigned lead pencil doodle on verso. Typed caption at lower margin: "'From the symptoms you just described it would be difficult to make a/diagnosis at this time. I would suggest you consult your own veterinary..'" American cartoonist Atkins (1904-1999) specialized in gag cartoons. Animals figured prominently in the works of the Sarasota, Florida-based cartoonist. Atkins' work appeared in periodicals like The Saturday Evening Post. Normal lead pencil drafting marks. Lightly toned. Show-through from stamps and notation on verso, which touches drawing but not signature. Irregular top edge. Folded in half and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
