Original art signed "Atkins". Red and blue ink notations in unknown hand and black ink stamps on verso. 8¼x8 overall, 8x7 drawing, one surface. Pen and ink cartoon. Typed caption in bottom left corner: "' She ran out of the money as/-Joan of Arc so she stripped/and went as Lady Godiva.../Now she won First Prize for/the most original costume...'" American cartoonist Atkins (1904-1999) specialized in gag cartoons. Animals figured prominently in the works of the Sarasota, Florida-based cartoonist. Atkins' work appeared in periodicals like The Saturday Evening Post. Normal lead pencil drafting marks. Lightly toned and creased. Show-through from stamps and notation on verso, which touches drawing but not signature. Irregular top edge. Folded in half and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
