Autograph Letter Signed: "Elmer Rice", 1p, 8½x11. Stamford, Connecticut, February 27,
1961. On his personal imprinted letterhead.To "My dear Miss Goldberg," JoAnn Goldberg of
Metropolitan Broadcasting, New York. In full: "I just got back last night from Toronto, where I
spent two weeks lecturing at the University. That explains my failure to answer your letter, I
hope. I'm sorry I missed the program, for the subject is one in which I am deeply interested. Very
truly yours," American playwright Elmer Rice (1892-1967) had his first success with On Trial
(1914). Rice, who won the 1929 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Street Scene, also wrote novels
and essays. From 1942-1956, he was married to stage and screen actress Betty Field
(1913-1973). Multiple mailing folds. Lightly creased and toned at edges. Otherwise, fine
condition.
