Typed Letter Signed: "Elmer Rice", 1p, 5½x8½. New York, 1932 December 2. On letterhead
of the Hotel Ansonia to "My dear Shipley". In part: "I know Miss Irwin and am in sympathy
with what she is trying to do. I should like to help it along, but I am just now going into a
production which will keep me busy until February, anyhow...." This letter was likely written
while the playwright was completing We, the People (1933). Rice, who had finished another
play, Counsellor-at-Law, in 1931, had won the 1929 Pulitzer Prize in Drama for Street Scene.
Lightly creased. Folds, horizontal fold underlines signature. Fine condition.
