ELMORE LEONARD
His signature across a stamp honoring John Steinbeck, and the 5x3 mounting card
Stamp signed: "Elmore Leonard", 1x1½ stamp affixed to 5x3 card. Signed in black ink across a 15-cent US issue honoring John Steinbeck, with signature beginning and ending on the mounting card. American author Leonard (1925-2013), born Elmore John Leonard, Jr., is best known for his Westerns and crime novels, many of which have been made into feature films. Beginning with Western short stories in 1951 for such publications as Argosy, Zane Grey Western and The Saturday Evening Post, Leonard then published The Bounty Hunters (1953), his first novel, which was followed by four more Westerns over the next eight years (his novel, Hombre, was chosen as one of the best Westerns of all time by the Western Writers of America in 1961). Since 1985, when he published Glitz, many of his novels -- Bandits, Touch, Freaky Deaky, Killshot, Get Shorty, Maximum Bob, Rum Punch (the basis of the film Jackie Brown), Pronto, Riding the Rap, Out of Sight, Cuba Libre -- have become best sellers. His short story "3:10 to Yuma" has been made into two successful films. Fine condition.
