5½x2½, on front and “Anita Willets Burnham” 3½x8¾, on verso, both affixed to a 7x9¾
sheet of paper. Front of paper also contains a 2x4¾ newspaper clipping featuring a b/w,
1¾x2¾, photo. Elyse Joy was a performance artist and reporter. She is known for her
journey across the U.S. during which she recorded her experiences as a hobo reporter. Anita
Willets Burham (1880-1958) was an artist and writer. She famously authored Round the
World on a Penny, a book chronicling her international travels with her family. A teacher
at the Art Institute of Chicago, Burham was also an artist who had work exhibited at the Fine
Arts Gallery of San Diego in California in 1935 and the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1940.
Signed pieces are toned and irregularly cut. Piece of paper to which signed pieces are attached is
irregularly shaped, stained, and worn throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
