Emanurl List signs an illustration of him in one of his roles.
Illustration inscribed and signed: "To Direktor (sic) A. Adama Zylstra,/In friendly remembrance of the Holland Festivals, 1950./at the Kurhaus Scheveningen/In gratitude of your kind hospitality/Emanuel List/Metropolitan Opera/N.Y." Illustration of List in one of his roles. ANTHONY ADAMA ZYLSTRA (1902-1982) married Irinia Orlova, Princess Orlova, the daughter of Nikolai Vladimirovich Orlov, Prince Orlov, and Nadezhda Petrovna Romanov, Princess of Russian, on January 8, 1960 in The Hague, The Netherlands. EMANUEL LIST (1886-1967), the Vienna, Austria-born bass who graced the stages of some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, began his American career in vaudeville, burlesque and minstrel shows. He made his operatic debut in Vienna in 1922, and later appeared at Berlin's Städtische Oper (1923-1924) and State Opera (1924-1933), London's Covent Garden (1925), several Salzburg Festivals (1931-1935) and the Bayreuth Festival (1933). In December 1933, List returned to the U.S., making his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Hermann in Tannhauser. He remained on the Met's roster from 1933-1948 and 1949-1950, appearing in over 400 performances in nearly 20 roles. List, who also appeared in San Francisco and Chicago (1935-1937), returned to Venice in 1952. In addition to his stage performances in such roles as Osmin, Sarastro, Rocco, Hagen and Baron Ochs, List recorded Bach cantatas. Frame is lightly chipped.
