EMANUEL ONDRICEK
His handwritten musical quotation from Dvorak, inscribed to a "talented pupil"
Inscribed Autograph Musical Quotation Signed: "Concerto in A minor/Allegro ma non troppo A. Dvorak/[4 measures of musical notation]/To my talented pupil/Phyllis Carol Wyman/Emanuel Ondricek/Boston, Mass/Nov. 22nd, '44", 5¼x4½ album leaf with captioned newspaper photo of Ondricek with violin affixed in upper left. Czech-born virtuoso violinist Emanuel Ondricek (1880-1958) came from a family of violin prodigies, including his performing brothers Stanislav and Frantisek, and his teaching sisters Augusta and Mary. Emanuel Ondricek emigrated from what was then Austria-Hungary to the US in 1910, and acquired citizenship in 1923. Rather than pursue a performing career, Ondricek became a premier violin teacher, with a studio in New York City. His wife, Gladys Posselt Ondricek, taught with him. Ondricek's exercise books for violin students are still in print. Upper right corner lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
