EMANUEL SACKS

The Vice President of NBC signs this friendly typed letter to an old friend, expressing his desire to meet up with him and other friend soon and mentioning it was possible that no one would recognize him at NBC

Typed Letter Signed: “Manie” in black ink. 7¼x10½. Dated: February 4, 1958. Place: New York. One page. In full:Dear Louis: I was so happy to receive your note of the 22nd and hope that you enjoyed a pleasant trip to Mexico, Lou, I sure am looking forward to the day when I can join Peggy and you in a drink, even a Coke, and hope that it will be in the not too distant future. As you can imagine, the length of this illness has got me down, but I feel confident that if I can continue to make some progress, slow as it may be, that I will soon be up and about. NBC is going to look like Paradise when I return and I only hope that the elevator men still recognize me. Warm good wishes to you both. Sincerely, Manie (ct). Mr. Louis Sobel, Journal American 220 South Street New York, N.Y.”. Emanuel Sacks (d. 1958) was the Vice President of NBC but his name seldom appeared in the newspapers and his position at NBC sometimes seemed rather vague and nebulous. Basically, he was a discoverer of talent-a decisive voice who said: “let's try it!” From wide experience in the recording industry and show business he had an uncanny knack of picking the better from the worst; he was always interested in advancing it, in suggesting changes and developments. He died of leukemia so there is an Emanuel Sacks Foundation for medical research in Philadelphia. Lightly toned. Sealed. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
