EMIL SITKA
The comic actor best known for Three Stooges film cites favorable
reviews for his performance in a regional theater comedy.
Autograph Note signed: "Critics said 'I stole the show'. 'E S/was
the best' - "most outstanding' / etc. etc.", 4½x4¾. Handwritten in the upper
margin of a captioned newspaper photo of a Leisure Village production of The
Silver Whistle. Emil Sitka (1914-1998) was one of only two actors
(the other being Harold Brauer) to work with all six of the Three Stooges.
The character actor appeared in so many Three Stooges films that he was often
called "the fourth Stooge." His most famous movie line, "Hold hands, you
lovebirds!" comes from the Three Stooges short, Brideless Groom (1947).
Altogether, Sitka appeared in over 400 films and TV shows, including 70
Three Stooges productions. Sitka, a regular at Three Stooges fan conventions,
received frequent requests to repeat the line at fans' weddings. It appears on
his tombstone. Sitka continued acting through 1992, appearing in many TV
guest spots, mostly in sitcoms like My Favorite Martian. In retirement, Sitka continued to regale his
neighbors in Leisure Village, Camarillo, California, with his comic antics on
and off stage. Irregularly cut at edges. Otherwise, fine
condition.
