The popular author and editor sends letter to a fan promising to
autograph one of her books, signs name in blue ink
Autograph letter signed: "Emily Kimbrough" in blue ink. 1
page, 5½x3½. Written on personal notecard. New York City, New York. In
full: "Dear Mr. Stanhope - If you will send me your copy of "Forty Plus..."
I shall by happy to autograph it for you - Yours sincerely". Emily
Kimbrough (1899-1989) was an American author and journalist. Her
breakthrough came after co-writing with her friend Cornelia Otis Skinner
Our Hearts Were Young and Gay based on their European adventures,
which would go on to be a New York Times bestseller and even merited a Hollywood
movie version (which would be the inspiration for We Followed Our Hearts to
Hollywood). She would go on to work as a magazine editor for publications
such as Fashions of the Hour, Ladies Home Journal, Country
Life, Reader's Digest, Saturday Review of Literature, and
Parents. Her other books include It Gives Me Great Pleasure
(1948), Forty Plus and Fancy Free (1954), Forever Old,
Forever New (1964) and Better than Oceans (1976). Toned.
Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Pencil notes in top margin in unknown
hand. Mailing stamps and addresses on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
