The soprano signs and dates her name 1896 in black ink
Signature: "Emma Calvé/1896", 3¼x2¼ card. 2¼x1½ thirteen-line yellowed newspaper article affixed at bottom of card. French operatic soprano Emma Calvé (1858-1942) was a classic diva: musically talented, dramatically powerful, and personally temperamental. She performed in many of the world's great opera stages, including the Opera Comique in Paris, Milan's La Scala, London's Covent Gardens, and the New York Metropolitan. In 1893, she performed Carmen in London, and would repeat the role on American stages. To preserve her voice, Calvé made a number of recordings of her most popular roles, and also appeared in a number of film shorts recorded between 1915 and 1935. Toned. Glue remnants on verso show through at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
