In Portuguese (untranslated).DOM PEDRO (1825-1889) ruled Brazil - at first through a regent - from his father's abdication (1831) until he was overthrown (1889) and replaced by a republic. A cautious reformer who tried to modernize his country, Dom Pedro began a gradual abolition of slaveryby emancipating the children of Brazilian-born slaves in 1871. He lived his last two years in exile in France after a coup. Creased, touching several lines of text. One vertical fold touch signature. Minor one-inch tear in paper backing of frame. Otherwise, fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 28¾x30¾.
