His signature as Emperor authorizing shipments of powder for garrisons in France and Italy
Manuscript LS: "Nap" as Emperor, 1 page, 7¼x9. Paris, 1810 October 14. To the Duke of Feltre, his Minister of War. In French, not translated. Emperor Napoléon approves specified shipments of powder for the French port of Toulon, for several locations in Italy and for the island of Corfu. In October, 1810, the Duke of Wellington prevented Napoléon from capturing Lisbon, Portugal, by staging a successful rearguard action at Torres Vedras. With a one-line note in French, written on the same day, possibly in Feltre's hand on a 3½x1 slip attached by a straight pin (probably from 1810) at lower left. HENRI J.G. CLARKE, DUKE OF FELTRE, Napoléon's Minister of War (1807-1814), later served King Louis XVIII as Minister of War. Notes at top margin in French, unknown hand. Fine condition.
