The German emperor signs this manuscript document written in German
Manuscript Document Signed: "Wilhelm Prince of Prussia". 4p, 8½x11. In German, not translated. Circa 1924. Petition that was written to him during his period of exile, Orange, N.J., proposing publication of a German-American newspaper in English devoted to Germany's interests. Annotated and initialed in indelible pencil. Wilhelm II (1859-1941) acceded to the throne in 1888 upon the death of his father, Kaiser Frederick III, who reigned only 99 days before succumbing to cancer. In 1890, Wilhelm II forced Bismarck to resign because of disagreements on various issues; Bismarck had been the first Chancellor of the German Empire since 1871. As part of the Armistice ending WWI, Wilhelm II was forced to abdicate, which he did on November 28, 1918. He went to Holland, where he died in 1941. Lightly creased. Folds, vertical fold touches signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
