On August 6, 1945, the Enola Gay (pictured) dropped the world's first atomic bomb used in war on Hiroshima, Japan. PAUL W. TIBBETS was the pilot, TOM FEREBEE was the bombardier, GEORGE R. CARON was the tail gunner and MORRIS R. JEPPSON was the weapons monitor of the Enola Gay. On August 9, 1945, Bocks Car dropped the world's second and last atomic bomb used in war on Nagasaki, Japan. RAY GALLAGHER was the assistant flight engineer of Bocks Car. The dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki hastened the end of WWII and made an invasion of Japan unnecessary, thereby saving the lives of thousands of American soldiers.
