First Day Cover honoring the 100th anniversary of the birth of Albert Einstein, 15-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Princeton, New Jersey, March 4, 1979, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Signed by six members of the Enola Gay and Bock's Car crews that dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan August 6 and 9, 1945, hastening the end of WWII. Lieutenant PAUL W. TIBBETS was the pilot of the Enola Gay. His crew included Captain THEODORE VAN KIRK (navigator), Major THOMAS FEREBEE (bombardier), Staff Sergeant GEORGE R. CARON (tail gunner) and Lieutenant JACOB BESER, who was on radar countermeasures officer on both the Enola Gay and Bock's Car. Sergeant RAY GALLAGHER was the assistant flight engineer on Bock's Car.
