Check endorsed by the pilot of the Enola Gay.
Check endorsed: "Deposit to account/[numbers written]/Paul W. Tibbets", 8¼x3. Madeira Beach, Florida, 1992 December 2. Check No. 2091, drawn on the account of J F F Company, Inc at the First Florida Bank, payable to Cash for $201.92. Unknown signature on front. United States Army Air Force Colonel Paul W. Tibbets was responsible for the organization, training and command of the world's first nuclear strike force. On the morning of August 6, 1945, Colonel Tibbets piloted the Enola Gay, a Boeing B-29 Superfortress, on its mission to drop the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb killed 66,000 and injured 69,000 people, not including long-term victims of radiation exposure. However, the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (August 9) hastened the surrender of Japan, ending WWII. Slightly creased with folds, vertical fold at one letter of the signature on front. Bank stamps on verso (not at signature) lightly show through. Fine condition.
