ENOLA GAY CREW: THEODORE VAN KIRK
The navigator and last surviving member of the Hiroshima bombing mission signs a photo of himself with pilot Paul Tibbets, bombardier Thomas Ferebee and group intelligence officer Hazen J. Fayette.
Photograph signed: "Theodore J. Van Kirk". B/w, 10x8. Van Kirk, who has signed over his image, is shown with Enola Gay pilot Paul Tibbets, navigator Thomas Ferebee, and the 509th Composite Group Intelligence Officer, Col. Hazen J. Fayette. Theodore Van Kirk (1921-2014), nicknamed "Dutch", was the navigator of the Enola Gay during the world's first atomic bombing over Hiroshima, Japan. Before this, he flew 58 B-17 bomber missions over occupied France and Germany before returning to the United States as a navigational instructor. He left the Army Air Corps a major and went on hold various positions in DuPont for 35 years. The death of Morris Jepson on March 30, 2010, left Van Kirk the last surviving member of the Enola Gay crew. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
