Program from the dedication of the 509th Memorial, postmarked that day in Wendover,
signed by the last surviving member of the Enola Gay crew.
Program signed: "Theodore Van Kirk", 4 pages, 5½x8½. Program from the dedication
ceremony of the Memorial to the 509th Composite Group, which dropped the Atomic
bombs on Japan. Postmarked Wendover Station, Utah, August 25, 1990 (the date of the
ceremony). The 509th trained at Wendover Air Force base, Utah. The monument is right
across the state line in West Wendover, Nevada. Theodore Van Kirk (1921-2014) was the
navigator of the Enola Gay during the world's first atomic bombing over Hiroshima,
Japan. He had flown 58 B-17 bomber missions over occupied France and Germany before
returning to the United States as a navigational instructor. He left the Army Air Corps a major
and went on hold various positions in DuPont for 35 years. Stamp and ink stamp on face.
