ENOS SLAUGHTER
He signs an envelope commemorating his entry into the Hall of Fame, postmarked Cooperstown, New York, July 28, 1985.
Gateway Limited Edition Commemorative Envelope signed: "Enos Slaughter". Special cover celebrating Slaughter's admission to the Baseball Hall of Fame, 22-cent US flag stamp affixed, postmarked Cooperstown, New York, July 28, 1985. Printed text: "Enos 'Country' Slaughter entered baseball's Hall of Fame as one of its best all-around players. A slashing .300 batter, the always hustling slaughter compiled 2,383 hits, 7,946 walks, and led the N.L. in singles (1942), doubles (1939), and triples (1942). He scored the winning run for St. Louis from first base on a single in the seventh game of the 1946 World Series against Boston." Inside the envelope is a 4¾x3 card bearing a printed correction: "Your Enos Slaughter envelope incorrectly states his number of career walks as 7,946. Slaughter walked 1,019 times and had 7,946 official at-bats. All 2,000 envelopes were printed with the same information. Gateway apologizes for the error." Enos Slaughter had a good eye at the plate. His career 1,019 walks rank him 91st on the all-time list. 7,946 BBs would have placed him in a league all his own, however, since that total is almost as many as the walks by career leaders #1 to #4, Barry Bonds, Rickey Henderson, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams combined. Fine condition.
