GALE SAYERS Golden Helmet award presentation plaque, signed by Sayers on the golden helmet Ephemera signed: "Gale Sayers" 20x12. Wooden base containing an engraved plaque honoring Sayers with the Golden Helmet Award, bearing the NFL logo and presented by the Coca Cola Company. On the right side of the base is a golden half-helmet, plastic, signed by Sayers in black sharpie. Hall of Famer Sayers (1943-2020), called "the Kansas comet" for his college play at KU, starred in seven seasons with the Chicago Bears. For his first entire season, Gale scored 22 touchdowns and 132 points, both then-rookie records. Quiet, unassuming, and always ready to compliment a teammate for a key block, Sayers continued to sizzle in 1967 and well into the 1968 season. Then, in the ninth game, Sayers suffered a knee injury that required immediate surgery. After a tortuous rehabilitation program, Gale came back in 1969 in a most spectacular manner, winding up with his second 1,000-yard rushing season and universal Comeback of the Year honors. But injuries continued to take their toll and, just before the 1972 season, Gale finally had to call it quits. In his relatively short career, he compiled a record that can never be forgotten.

GUTZON BORGLUM Deep-relief bust rendering of George Washington's head from an original cast by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor who created the Mount Rushmore National Monument. Produced to help finance construction of the "shrine of democracy", this model displays Borglum's vision and craftsmanship, and was personally signed by him. Original art signed "Gutzon Borglum/Rushmore" on verso. 4¼x5x2 sculpture mounted on 8x9¼x¼ brown velvet-covered wood board. This is a deep-relief rendering of George Washington's head, from a mold made by the sculptor who created the Mount Rushmore National Monument. Executed before the monument itself, this model reflects Borglum's design in its planning stage. Though a small piece, it is filled with subtle details that breathe life and humanity - and dignity - into its subject. This patriotic piece of Americana is a fine exhibition of Borglum's skills. John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum (1867-1941), born in St. Charles, Idaho, already famous for creating the great head of Lincoln in the U.S. Capitol rotunda, was commissioned to begin work on a "shrine of democracy" in 1927.

Official Riddell New York Jets football helmet, signed in green felt tip. This Jets team, 11-3 in the regular season, defeated the Oakland Raiders 27-23 in the AFL Championship game, and then whipped the heavily favored Baltimore Colts 16-7 to bring the American Football League its first Super Bowl victory. Signers here include quarterback Namath, running backs Boozer and Snell, receivers Maynard and Lammons, and 7 participants in that seasons Pro Bowl (Namath, Atkinson, Boozer, Elliot, Herman, Hill and Maynard). Signatures unusually bold and clear for having been signed on a piece of athletic equipment. Fine condition.

COLE YOUNGER Plains Indian "peace pipe", an heirloom given by Younger to his close friend Harry Hoffman, who attended Cole at his death bed. This well-used Minnesota red pipestone comes from Hoffman's collection, with a notarized statement signed by him. Ephemera, unsigned. Catlinite pipestone "peace pipe", each separated piece roughly 8x3½ (due to length of handle), with the much-handled patina of an authentically used pipe (very different from the clean surfaces found on souvenir pipes). This easily worked rock type, drawn from quarries near the Pipestone River in Minnesota, was in use by several Plains Indian nations for making ceremonial pipes. "Catlinite" is a descriptive term applied to the stone since American painter George Catlin wrote about it in 1832. Accompanied by Typed Statement signed: "Harry C. Hoffman", in full: "one Indian peace pipe, given to Harry C. Hoffman by Cole Young", 7¾x4¾. Notarized by Charles Wright at Oxford, Ohio, September 21, 1948. COLE YOUNGER (1844-1916) was a Confederate guerrilla fighting in divided Missouri during the Civil War. Joining the band of William Quantrill, he participated in the bloody raid on Lawrence, Kansas.

KING GEORGE VI, CO-SIGNED BY: QUEEN ELIZABETH (THE QUEEN MOTHER) This exquisite presentation album - signed by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth as King and Emperor and as Queen Consort - contains an historic 78-RPM recording of the BBC radio broadcast of George VI's coronation and an address by him as king. It comes framed, Gallery of History Style, in a presentation case with a UV-resistant UF-3 Plex lid. Two items: 1) Album signed "George R I" by King George VI and "Elizabeth R" by Queen Elizabeth on vellum inside front cover. "14¼x12½x3¾. On cover: "The Coronation/of/The Majesties/King George VI and Queen Elizabeth/in/Westminster Abbey/and/H.M. The King's Broadcast Message/May 12th, 1937" in gilt. "R.I" stands for "Rex Imperator" (King Emperor), a title used from 1877, when Queen Victoria became Empress of India, to 1948, following Indian independence. Album has purple satiny-fabric endpapers. Contains 15 78-RPM records, 11¾ inches in diameter each by the Gramophone Co., Ltd. of Hayes, Middlesex, England, in paper sleeves.
