EPHRAIM KISHON. Photograph signed: "E. Kishon/1995." B/w, 5x7 overall, image 4x5¼ (one surface). In the year he signed this photograph, the Israeli TV series, Sipurey Efraim, based on Kishon's book, Sefer Mishpachti, first aired. Hungarian-born writer, producer, director and sometimes actor Ephraim Kishon (1924-2005) was a leading figure of Israeli film and literature. Noted for instilling Hungarian Jewish humor into the culture of the country, he is best known for his 1964 Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated directorial debut, Sallah, which introduced Chaim Topol to worldwide audiences, as well three other films he directed: Ervinka (Arbinka, 1967); The Policeman (1971; nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film); and, The Big Dig (1969). Kishon, who has written more than 50 prize-winning books, novels and plays, is known for his biting satire. Slightly creased at upper right blank corner. Minor surface striation (not evident head on) at cheek. Fine condition.
