ERASTUS CORNING II. Photograph inscribed and signed: "Best regards to/Danny Franklin/Erastus Corning 2nd 12-1-69" as Mayor of Albany, New York. B/w, Erastus Corning II (1909-1983) was the longest-serving Major of a major American city, serving eleven terms as Mayor of Albany (1941-1983). The grandson of Erastus Corning, who was Mayor of Albany from 1834-1836, and the son of Edwin Corning, who was New York's Lieutenant Governor from 1926-1928, Corning had begun his political career in 1936 in the New York State Assembly. He then was a member of the New York State Senate from 1937-1941, when he resigned upon becoming Mayor. During Corning's service in WWII, a city councilman was acting mayor, but Corning served ten full terms after the war, winning his last re-election in 1980. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on), some at facial image. Overall, fine condition.
