ERIC A. SEVAREID
A short note from the CBS news reporter, thanking a fan for her
recent note to him
Autograph note signed: "Eric Sevareid", in black ink, 4x5½.
In full: "Dear Miss Winnie, Thanks for your good note and the paper-
I'm including a photograph [photograph not included]- best of luck".
After a brief stint as a newspaper reporter, Eric A. Sevareid
(1912-1992) joined CBS News in Europe before WWII and spent the
rest of his life (1912-1992) in broadcast journalism. Despite his scholarly
image in later years, Sevareid was a swashbuckling war correspondent, whose
exploits included parachuting into the Burmese jungle. National correspondent
on the CBS Evening News (1964-1977), he deplored the slow surrender
of broadcast journalism to popular showmanship. The author of several
books, including Not So Wild a Dream (1946), a study of the
generation that lived through the Depression and WWII, he narrated several TV
documentaries after his official retirement from CBS news. Light surface
creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
