ERIC BROTHERSON
Longtime actor sends note to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, updating him on his career
Autograph letter signed: "EB" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x11. Written underneath original printed letter from John Willis. In full: "Thank you, Mr. Willis, it's nice to be at the St. James after a ten year absence. This past year Nanette Fabray and I have had success with "Plaza Suite" in theatres in Milwaukee-Cleveland area, and Seattle - otherwise we've been on the coast in T.V. and a couple of features - and Danny Lane in "Great Waltz" 1970-71". Eric Brotherson (1911-1989) is an actor of the stage and screen, and performed for almost forty years. He made his Broadway debut in the comedy Between the Devil (1937) and went on to perform in Lady in the Dark (1941, 1942, 1943), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949) and My Fair Lady (1976). He didn't begin working on screen till about halfway through his career in television shows such as Get Smart (1967), That Girl (1970), and The Hound of the Baskervilles (1972). Brotherson also appeared in the movies Blacula (1972), The Strongest Man in the World (1975), and The Black Bird (1975). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Creased throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
