ERLE STANLEY GARDNER. TLS: "Erle Stanley Gardner", 1p, 8½x11. Temecula, California, 1947 August 9. On his personal pictorial letterhead to Mr. William C. Keim, Encino, California. In full: "Thanks for your offer to demonstrate the Pierce Wire Recorder. Right at present, I am pretty well set up with dictating equipment and secretaries; but there certainly are some interesting new developments in this field. I do not attempt to keep enough books on hand here to answer all requests. I would have to run a regular book store if I did. Publishers allow their authors only 10 copies of each book, and those of course I send to my family. I don't believe you will be able to find a Morrow edition of 'The Case of the Black-eyed Blonde' in the book stores, but you might find a Grosset & Dunlap reprint, and this book should be coming out in Pocket Book edition before too long. -- I hope you are able to fill out your set without trouble. My best to you." Gardner is best known for creating Perry Mason (beginning in 1933), the lawyer/detective who appears in more than 80 of his novels, including The Case of the Black-eyed Blonde, which was published in 1944. Episode 37 of the first season of the Perry Mason television show was based on the book. Airing on June 14, 1958, the show starred Raymond Burr as Perry Mason and Whitney Blake as Diana Reynolds, a blonde with a black eye who appears at his office wearing an overcoat over a bathrobe. Slightly creased. Folds, vertical fold touches the "l" in Stanley. Fine condition.
