Inscribed Photograph signed: "To/Robert/Best Wishes/Ernest Borgnine" in blue felt tip, and "Dear Robert/may all your/dreams/come true/Tova" in gold ink, Color 8x10. In 1955, ERNEST BORGNINE (1917-2012) proved his versatility in the film version of Paddy Chayefsky's acclaimed television play, Marty. Borgnine's moving portrayal earned him an Academy Award, a British Academy Award, a Cannes Festival award, and an award from both the New York Film Critics and the National Board of Review. In 1962, he was cast in the role for which he is most remembered by baby boomers, Quentin McHale in the sitcom, McHale's Navy (ironically, Borgnine had served in the U.S. Navy for ten years before becoming an actor). During the 1960s and 1970s, Borgnine appeared in several films, including The Dirty Dozen (1966), Ice Station Zebra (1968) and The Wild Bunch (1969). Following the demise of McHale's Navy, Borgnine continued his busy career. His other notable features include The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and Law and Disorder (1974). Spongebob Squarepants fans may also recognize his voice as that of over-the-hill superhero Mermaid Man. Borgnine was married to his third wife, Ethel Merman, from June 26 to July 28, 1964. TOVE BORGNINE, born Tove Traesnaes in Norway, married Ernest Borgnine in 1973 as his fifth, and current, wife. She heads Beauty by Tova, a line of cosmetics. Fine condition.
