ERNEST DIMNET The French author writes to a friend saying that it was a pleasure to see her last summer in this signed handwritten letter Autograph Letter signed: "Ernest Dimnet", 2p, folded to 4½x7. On personal letterhead. No place. No date. Accompanied by envelope addressed in same hand to "Mrs. J. Wainwright, 912 Clay Avenue, Scranton Pa" postmarked New York, N.Y., October 20, 1926. Letter reads in full: "I would be in despair at the double chance missed here and in Paris if that trip were not going to be such a pleasure for you two. Is it absolutely impossible that you should stay on into January? It was such a joy to see you last summer. Mrs Sill lives at 35 boulevard lefebre, one block from the Porte de Versailles terminus of the Nord-Sud. I know she will be delighted to see you again. You were very congenial. But to think that all the time, I shall be here, and our two ships will probably cross in mid ocean! Bon Voyage. With my amities to Dr Wainwright. Tres a vous. I shall probably sail on the Berengaria Dec. 15th. Ernest Dimnet (1866-1954) was a French cleric, author, and philosopher. His best known work, The Art of Thinking (1930), purportedly improves the reader's concentration by following a few simple practices. Dimnet is also well regarded for his popular French translations of English books written by Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte. Toned. Multiple folds. Slight creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
