ERNIE "MR. CUB" BANKS
Mr. Cub endorses this check for $900.00
Check Endorsed: "Ernie/Banks", 8¼x3. Check drawn on the account of
Frank Scott Associates at Chemical Bank, New York, April 19, 1971, payable to
Banks for $900.00, No. 10520. Banks (1931-2015) will always be "Mr. Cub," the
most popular player the franchise ever had. He played for the Cubs his
entire career (1953-1971), retiring with 512 lifetime home runs. The
first black player on the Cubs, Banks came up as a shortstop, where he
won consecutive MVP awards (1958-1959), but actually played more games at
first base. He led the League in home runs in 1958 and 1960 and in RBIs
1958-59. Banks was All-Star eleven times and won a Gold Glove in
1960. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977. Slightly soiled. One
of several banks stamps touches "nks" of Banks' endorsement on verso. Otherwise,
fine condition.
