Signature: "Ernie Nevers", 4½x1¾ slip, affixed to 14x11 captioned sheet bearing five printed photographs of Nevers. Once called "the football player without a fault" by Pop Warner, Ernie Nevers (1902-1976), an All-American with Stanford, was an iron man, playing the 1925 Rose Bowl on two ankles that had been broken earlier in the season, and was named Player of the Game. Nevers turned pro with the Duluth Eskimos (1926-1927), where he reportedly played all but 29 of a possible 1,740 minutes. But he secured his place in college history with the Chicago Cardinals (1929-1931), when he scored all 40 points in a Nov. 28, 1929 rout against the Chicago Bears. He also scored all 19 of the Cardinal's points in their next game, giving him a two-game total of 59 points. Nevers went on to score a total of 12 touchdowns that year. In his short career, Nevers was made the All-Pro first team five times and scored 301 points in 54 games. He also pitched for the St. Louis Browns from 1926 to 1928, where he had a 6-12 record, giving up two of Babe Ruth's 60 homers in the Bambino's record 1927 season. Nevers was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. Image lifted on outer margins of calendar. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn.
