(1903-1987) made his mark on American literature with such classics on the South as Tobacco
Road(1932) and God's Little Acre (1933). Playwright EDWARD F. ALBEE (1928-2016),
whose plays include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1962) and All Over (1971), won the
1967 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for A Delicate Balance (1966). Science fiction Hugo Award
winner, ISAAC ASMIOV (1920-1992) was more than a novelist, also writing science and
theology textbooks, including his sci-fi Foundation trilogy (1951-1953) and his scientific text,
The Human Brain(1964). ALEX HALEY (1921-1992) won a 1977 Pulitzer Prize for Roots,
his poignant saga of American slavery that was adapted into an award-winning television
mini-series. STEPHEN KING, a master of the horror genre, has written a long list of
bestsellers, many of which have been adapted for the screen or as TV miniseries. LEON URIS
(1924-2003) reflected on the centuries-long plight of the Semites in Exodus(1958). He also
wrote the script for that film and for Battle Cry(based on his 1953 book). Author/critic
ROBERT PENN WARREN (1905-1989) won Pulitzer Prizes in 1947 for All The King's
Men, his 1946 biographical novel of Huey Long, and in 1958 for his poetic work, Promises:
Poems 1954-1956 (1957), becoming the first to win in both the fiction and poetry
categories. Lightly rippled. Light rectangular stain at lower right margin from removal of
