American writer Jack London. Postmarked Glen Ellen, California, January 11, 1986. 25¢

his mark on American literature with such classics about life in the South as Tobacco Road
(1932) and God's Little Acre (1933). Playwright EDWARD F. ALBEE (1928-2016), whose
plays include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1962) and All Over (1971), won the 1967
Pulitzer Prize for Drama for A Delicate Balance (1966). Science fiction Hugo Award winner,
ISAAC ASMIOV (1920-1992) was more than a novelist, also writing science and theology
textbooks. Among his many works are his sci-fi Foundation trilogy (1951-1953) and his
scientific text, The Human Brain (1964). ALEX HALEY (1921-1992) won a 1977 Pulitzer
Prize for Roots, his poignant saga of American slavery that was adapted into an award-winning
television miniseries. LEON URIS (1924-2003) reflected on the centuries-long plight of the
Semites in Exodus (1958). He also wrote the script for that film and for Battle Cry (based on
his 1953 book). Author/critic ROBERT PENN WARREN (1905-1989) won Pulitzer Prizes
in 1947 for All The King's Men, his 1946 biographical novel of Huey Long, and in 1958 for
his poetic work, Promises: Poems 1954-1956 (1957), becoming the first to win in both the
fiction and poetry categories. Slightly rippled. Light rectangular stain at lower right from
