ESTHER MUIR
The comic actress signs a Christmas card for a dear friend. Accompanied by unsigned, hand addressed envelope postmarked in December of 1994, less than a year before her death.
Inscribed Christmas card signed: "To my friend, Ronald Wilson,/With love,/Esther Muir". Signed inside in the lower half (6½x4½) of a folded card, around a printed message. Traditional Christmas scene on front. Fine condition. Accompanied by autograph envelope, unsigned but addressed in Muir's hand to Ronald Wilson, Franklin, Massachusetts, postmarked Tucson, Arizona, December 19, 1994, with a printed return address label of Esther Muir, Somers, New York. Otherwise, fine condition. Esther Muir (1907-1995) was a statuesque actress with (often underutilized) comic skills. Prominent roles included So This is Africa (1933) and Misbehaving Husbands (1941). She is probably best remembered opposite Groucho Marx in A Day at the Races (1937). Their classic exchange in the film is forever remembered: Muir: "Closer, hold me closer." Marx: "If I hold you any closer I'll be in back of you." Envelope Slightly soiled and frayed at opening on top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
