ESTHER RALSTON
Esther Ralston sends a typed letter of thanks.
Typed Letter signed: "Esther Ralston", 1p, 8¼x11. No place, 1979 January 8. To Mr. Norbutt. In full: "Thank you for your lovely letter. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be included in the wonderful work you are doing for these young people. I wish these pictures I've autographed [not present] could talk to your students. They would tell them how wonderful it is to be able to entertain our fellow man. How rewarding it is, and most especially, how very important it is to keep ourselves clean, pure and above reproach. ( How very bright a star can shine in the Heavens when it is not obscured by fog!) I was raised by my father and mother, who were actors before me, in the best tradition of the theater and I've always believed it is a great privilege to be given the talent and the inspiration to be an actor. God bless and further the work you are doing! Sincerely," Actress Esther Ralston (1902-1994), who began her career as a child on vaudeville, was billed as "The American Venus" after appearing in the 1926 film of the same name. A major star at Paramount during the 1920s, she was one of the highest-paid silent movie stars. After making her film debut in 1915 (The Deep Purple), she often appeared in silent serials and Westerns (opposite such stars as Hoot Gibson and Tom Mix). Her long list of film credit includes The Kid (1921), Oliver Twist (1922, as Rose Maylie), Peter Pan (1924, as Mrs. Darling), A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), Old Ironsides (1926), Black Beauty (1933), Hollywood Boulevard (1936) and Tin Pan Alley (1940). Ralston also acted in radio soap operas and appeared on the TV series, Our Five Daughters (1962). Fine condition.
