Autograph Note signed: "Ethel Shannon Jackson", 6x2½. No
place, 1935 March 26. In full: "Please permit my mother - Agnes
Phillips to enter my safety deposit box 116 and deposit large envelope with one
enclosure." Pencil note: "OK/Dalton".American actress Ethel Jackson
(1877-1957) studied in Europe and performed for the D'Oyly Carte company,
returning to America before the turn of the century to stardom in legitimate
theater, musical comedy and vaudeville. In 1898 she starred on the Broadway
stage in Little Miss Nobody. In 1905 she was featured in the first
American production of The Merry Widow. She was married to theater
manager J. Frederick Zimmerman, Jr. (1902-1908) and later to prominent divorce
lawyer Benoni Lockwood, Jr., who had handled her divorce from Zimmerman.
Jackson's last appearance on the Broadway stage was in Key Largo (1939).
Nail size hole near left edge. Left edge lightly frayed from binding. Ink
stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
