Signatures: "Ethel Merman" and "Russell Nype", both in blue ink. 6½x2½. Possessing one of the richest, most powerful voices in the history of theater, MERMAN (1908-1984, born Ethel Agnes Zimmerman in Astoria, New York), became known as the "First Lady" of American musical comedy. She strutted her way across the stage during five decades of show-business success, beginning with her breakout in 1930's Girl Crazy and continuing on to memorable parts in Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy. I Got Rhythm from Girl Crazy and There's No Business Like Show Business from Annie Get Your Gun became her trademark songs. She also won a Tony Award for her role as Mrs. Sally Adams in Call Me Madam. NYPE, born in 1924 in Zion, Illinois, is an American baritone who won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in 1951 (Kenneth Gibson in Call Me Madam) and 1959 (George Randolph Brown in Goldilocks). Lightly toned and stained. Merman's signature is lightly smeared. Otherwise in fine condition.
