ETHEL MERMAN
Small 5x7 publicity photo for a production of Gypsy of a bright-eyed Ethel Merman. She received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in this musical.
Inscribed Photograph Signed "To/ David Brickell/from/Ethel Merman". B/w, 5x7. Merman (1908-1984), born Ethel Agnes Zimmerman, became known as the "First Lady" of American musical comedy. Possessing one of the richest, most powerful voices in the history of theater, she strutted her way across the stage during five decades of show-business success, beginning with her breakout in 1930's Girl Crazy and continuing on to memorable parts in Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy. I Got Rhythm from Girl Crazy and There's No Business Like Show Business from Annie Get Your Gun became her trademark songs. Merman won a Tony Award for her performance in Call Me Madam and two nominations for Happy Hunting and Gypsy. Edges lightly toned. Corners lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
