Signatue: "Ethel Shutta", in blue ink, 5¼x4½. American actress Ethel Shutta (1896-1976) began her career touring with her family's singing group at the age of 7. In 1922 to she began appearing on Broadway and performed in several shows including The Passing Show of 1922 (1922), Marjorie (1924), Louie the 14th (1925) and Whoopee! (1928-1929). She reprised her role as Mary Custer in a 1930 film version of Whoopee! and also appeared in the 1965 film The Playground. Shutta acted on several television programs in the late 1950's like M Squad (1959), Wagon Train (1958-1960) and Overland Trail (1960). Her final Broadway performance was in Stephen Sondheim's Follies (1971-1972) playing the role Hattie Walker. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
