Signature: "Ethel Shutta" and "George Olsen" in blue ink. 1 page, 6x4½. American actress ETHEL SHUTTA (1896-1976) began her career touring with her family's singing group at the age of 7. In 1922 to she began appearing on Broadway and performed in several shows including The Passing Show of 1922 (1922), Marjorie (1924), Louie the 14th (1925) and Whoopee! (1928-1929). She reprised her role as Mary Custer in a 1930 film version of Whoopee! and also appeared in the 1965 film The Playground. Shutta acted on several television programs in the late 1950's like M Squad (1959), Wagon Train (1958-1960) and Overland Trail (1960). Her final Broadway performance was in Stephen Sondheim's Follies (1971-1972) playing the role Hattie Walker. American band leader GEORGE OLSEN (1893-1971) was a prolific recording artist for Victor, Columbia and Decca in the 1920s and 1930s. He appeared in several Broadway shows, including Eddie Cantor's Whoopee! (1928), and the 1930 movie version of Whoopee! He was married to singer/dancer Ethel Shutta from 1926 to 1936, also a performer in the Cantor show. The couple performed together in nightclubs and on Jack Benny's radio show. From the album collection of child actor BILLY SEAY (1922-2012), who appeared in many films throughout the decade including The Greater Glory (1926), My Man (1928), and The Marriage Playground (1929). Seay would leave Hollywood in the early 1930s to become a noted artist and illustrator. Toned. Edges soiled. Small stains throughout. Light surface creases. Binding holes in left margin torn and frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
