The prestigious French novelist pens this letter to a friend in which he asks him if he
could stop by his place instead of him going to his, signed in iron gall ink. Extremely rare!
Autograph Letter signed: "E. Sue" in iron gall ink, 1p, 3¼x5. No place, no date. To "Mr. Niles"
in iron gall ink. In French, translated in full: "I would like it if you would take the trouble to
come by my place Sunday morning my dear Sir Niles, I would have the pleasure of seeing you. If
that inconveniences you, I will stop by your place. My compliments to Madame Niles [5 words
difficult to decipher] ". Integral leaf addressed by Sue to: "Monsieur Niles". French novelist
Eugene Sue (1804-1857) is known for his tales of Parisian underworld and slum life. He
established the genre of the serial novel with his extremely popular and widely imitated Les
Mysteres de Paris, which was published in a newspaper from 1842 to 1843.Folds, lightly
creased. Lightly stained. Top left corner missing on integral leaf. Small hole at bottom left.
