being included in his book
Autograph letter signed: "Eva" in blue ink. 1 paged, 8¾x5¾.
Written on personal letterhead. October 1981. New York City New York. In
part: "Dear Mr. Willis, Thank you for making me part of your
distinguished "Theatre World" volume these past years...I am very proud to
be part of it! I wanted to send you a picture [not included] more recent
than the one I sent when I was in the 1977 Broadway revival of "HAIR" and
also to add my credits these additions:/ Thank you for including me! All best
wishes,". Eva Charney has appeared to much acclaim both on and off
Broadway, as well as in television and movies. She made her off-Broadway debut
in The Wanderers, and her Broadway debut in HAIR
(1977), furthermore making her regional debut in Arturo Ui
where she played the saxophone live onstage. In television, she has appeared
in St. Elsewhere (1985) and Dave's World (1993); and
in the movies The First Time (1983) and Mr. Write
(1994). She now works as a renowned Hollywood dialogue coach, consultant,
and production assistant. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre
World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that
position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and
film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual
Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the
Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for
Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges.
Corners creased and rounded. Lightly toned. Ink slightly smeared and shows
through verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
