Inscribed photograph signed: "To Alice/ Sincerely/ Eva Marton" in black ink. B/w, 5x7. Dramatic opera soprano Eva Marton (b. 1943) debuted with the State Opera of her native Hungary in 1968, and performed thereafter in the major opera venues of Europe and the US. Renowned for her Wagnerian roles, she performed in the entire Ring Cycle under the direction of Zubin Mehta at Chicago's Lyric opera in 1996. She is also closely associated with Puccini's Turandot, which she first performed in Vienna in 1983 and has seen performed worldwide, including film and TV presentations. After announcing her retirement in 2008, she returned to the opera; she sang Klymnestra in a 2010 performance in Geneva. Ink notes on verso. Ink stamp on verso. Corners slightly rounded.
